Teach Me To Be An Optimist

An Optimist
“The only disability in life is a bad attitude.” - JimmyScott Hamilton
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” -Winston Churchill
“I can’t change the direction of the wind,
but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” -Jimmy Dean
I can be what you would call an optimistic pessimist. Which basically just means that although I try to be positive, I often find myself falling to the to the other side. I’m not sure why or how it happened, but I became so pessimistic. Maybe it’s because of things that happen in my life or maybe it was just sign that at a certain time I gave up.
I wasn’t always that way, I was much more optimistic in my younger ears, but I’m guessing most of us were. Even better though, I’m becoming more optimistic again. I’m seeing the hope and the opportunity in the world rather then all the crap. I like the feeling. I like to know that I can go after what I want, and whether I do or not, it still means I pushed for something.
Optimism is greatest of qualities to have and yet these days it seems to have become as rare a virtue as they say patience is. And that’s because of one big thing: it’s no longer easy to be the one that is positive. Being an optimist means that you now have to go against the grain.
Even last night I was reminded how jaded people have become. Even more, I was a witness to how people have in turn kind of given up on thinking they can do much to change their circumstances, or the circumstances of the country and world around them.
We can’t give up. We have to keep believing something can be done. We have to have a positive out look. We have to want more for ourselves. We have to believe.
I may be a born pessimist, but I’m determined to become an eternal optimist.

  1. I’m a natural optimist, I’ve been told more than once I’m annoyingly optimistic so if you ever need help seeing the silver lining let me know! For me negativity wastes & drains my energy faster than anything else. Patience on the other hand is the virtue I lack, but I’m working on it! :)
